Joe Johnston Thinks We Still Might One Day See Jurassic Park 4

Source: Firstshowing
By Alex Billington

Even though we've heard time and time again that it's going to never happen, director Joe Johnstonstill believes we will one day see Jurassic Park 4. Back in June, producer Frank Marshall said that another Jurassic Park was a "long shot" and that they "don't have a story." Not according to Johnston.Ain't It Cool News spoke with the director recently and heard otherwise. "Well, there is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it’s nothing like the first three. It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved."

Johnston continues: "Why would anybody go back to that island? It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go, but it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically, but when it gets to that level it’s sort of about studios and Steven’s thing and who knows. I think we are at that point where we are due for another one if we are going to do it. They had what four years between them? 1992… 1996 or 1997, and then 2001, so we are past due. I don’t know, but we will see."

The last few times we've written about Jurassic Park 4, I've expressed my disdain towards seeing another sequel. Exactly as Johnston said, we don't need to go back to any island again. At this point the franchise has burned itself out and if they make another one it's just going to get worse. I think it's better we don'tever see another sequel. Kind of like the Terminator franchise, it's time we just left it alone and let the legacy live on as it is, no more sequels or reboots or TV shows or anything. I love the original Jurassic Park but don't care for any of the sequels. Although, maybe I am a little curious to hear what the new story is?

Check This Out: Teaser Poster for Joe Dante's The Hole in 3D

Source: firstshowing
by Alex Billington

No, The Hole isn't a new porno, it's a creepy new thriller from director Joe Dante, the man who brought us Gremlins and Piranha and other great movies. ShockTillYouDrop has unveiled our first high res look at the poster from the movie featuring the "hole" in the basement in which all the "bad guys" come from. Much like Small Soldiers, one of Dante's other past movies, The Hole is actually made for the younger teenage demographic, but it's still creepy. I got to see an early trailer at Comic-Con and it looks okay, not anything amazing, but just because it's Joe Dante, I'm mildly excited for it. Anyway, check the poster out below!

The Hole, filmed in 3-D, centers on Susan (Teri Polo), a mother who moves with her teen sons to a rural house where the three are forced to face their fears after discovering a bottomless hole in the basement.

The Hole is directed by one-of-a-kind filmmaker Joe Dante, of films like Piranha, The Howling, Gremlins,Explorers, Innerspace, The 'burbs, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, and Small Soldiers. The screenplay was written by Mark L. Smith, of only Séance and Vacancy previously. The Hole was film independently and doesn't currently have a distributor, although we expect to hear more about its release plans very soon!

First Look: New Michael Myers Mask from Rob Zombie's H2

by Alex Billington

Now that we know Rob Zombie is directing the sequel to his own Halloween from 2007, progress is finally being made on the project. The first reveal is a maquette of the new mask that Michael Myers will be wearing in H2: Halloween 2. The photo comes from Zombie's own MySpace blog, where he mentions that make-up artist Wayne Toth is "back on the case working the greatest Michael ever." The photo at the top is from Zombie's original Halloween to reference any changes. It doesn't look like that much of a modification, but then again, I'm not a big Halloween fan so I'm not able to pick out all the minor differences.

Note: While it doesn't officially say that this is only a maquette, I'm guessing that this is just an early sculpt of the mask and that it obviously won't be orange and it will have hair in the end. Thoughts?

Between this and the Friday the 13th remake, I'm actually a lot more excited for the new Friday the 13th. I'm not a big horror fan as is, but when I saw Rob Zombie's Halloween, I really wasn't able to get into it at all. On the flip side, though, I've seen a lot of the new Friday the 13th and already think it looks a lot better. Rob Zombie is both writing and directing H2: Halloween 2 which is already slated for release on August 28th later this year. Are there enough fans of Rob Zombie's reboot to keep this franchise going? And those of you that are hardcore Halloween fans — what do you think of this new mask? Good or bad?

Vadim Perelman Directing Poltergeist Remake?!

August 30, 2008
Source: Bloody Disgusting
by Alex Billington

The last gig that Ukrainian filmmaker Vadim Perelman was attached to was an adaptation of Ayn Ran's Atlas Shrugged. While that book does deserve a film, Perelman previously expressed his lack of interest and has now moved on. Instead, he's supposedly directing a remake of the 1982 horror classic Poltergeist. Is anyone else tired of these ridiculous remakes of iconic classics always popping up every day?! Our friends at Bloody Disgusting via SlashFilm recently picked up this scoop on Perelman and are reporting that he "is in heavy talks", but not officially confirmed, to direct the remake being developed at MGM. Maybe it's just me, but I would've thought Poltergeist would never ended up being remade…

Just last week, Juliet Snowden and Stiles White were officially hired to write the remake. The two previously wrote the 2005 horror flick Boogeyman as well as the upcoming Knowing with Nic Cage and The Birds remake. I'd like to find out why these two are so adament on writing rehashes of great horror classics, especially if they admire those horror films to begin with. As for Perelman, whose filmography only includes House of Sand and Fog and The Life Before Her Eyes, I don't know enough about him to say whether he's a good choice or not. However, I do know enough to say that a remake of Poltergeist is entirely unnecessary to begin with. Horror remakes seem to be the hottest thing in Hollywood at the moment.

I can accept remakes of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, those can be done somewhat successfully. But remakes of films like Poltergeist or The Shinning - that's a bit ridiculous. There isn't much that sounds too exciting about this remake so far. Is there any one who is hopeful for this remake?
